Drifting 101
C'est quoi la drift?
Dans son expression la plus simple, la drift consiste en un dérapage contrôlé du véhicule dans une série de virages consécutifs. Combinant la vitesse, la fumée, le style et l'adrénaline, la drift est un sport automobile extrême qui demande avant tout des talents de pilote exceptionnel.

Origine:
Il y a près de 15 ans, certains adeptes pratiquaient sur des routes sillonnant les montagnes du Japon, pays d'origine de la drift. Avec le temps, des organisations sérieuses telles que le Grand Prix D1 ont vu le jour en Asie, et le Formula D au États-Unis. N'oublions pas la serie Drift Mania au Canada.

Critères de jugement:
Les voitures sont jugés selon 3 principaux critères: la vitesse à l'entrée et à la sortie d'un virage, l'angle de dérapage et la technique de drift (le suivi de la ligne de course, le transfert de poids, etc.).

Enregistrement au Show & Shine
L'enregistrement pour le Show & Shine va prendre lieu à chaque évènement, premiers arrivés, premiers servis.

A propos de nous
Drift Mania a commencé dans le monde du drift au Canada en Octobre 2004. Après de nombreuses cliniques et des journées de drift, le Championnat de drift DM est né.

Notre équipe principal est constitué de:

Alexandre Crépault - Directeur Général
Alexandre s'est jeté dans le monde de l'automobile en 2002 quand il a lancé le magazine Québec Tuning, un magazine d'automobile dirigé vers les jeunes amateurs de tuning au Québec. Depuis ce temps, Québec Tuning s'est adapté au monde du performance, et Alex aussi. Il a vu un opportunité pour l'établissement d'une série de Drift au Québec et au Canada, donnant aux amateurs la chance de pratiquer ce sport au plus haut niveau.

Vincent Noel - Directeur Du Marketing
Apres avoir fait ses etudes en marketing/ publicité, puis travaillé en agence pour divers clients reliés au domaine de automobile, Vincent a fait son entré dans le milieu des voitures modifié lorsqu'il fut engagé par Québec Tuning quelques mois apres sa création en Septembre 2002. Aujourd'hui directeur des ventes du magazine, c'est avec enthousiasme qu'il a décidé de relever un autre défi tout aussi stimulant, celui de participer a l'introduction de la drift aux canadiens, un sport automobile extreme qui gagne a etre connu pour son coté spectaculaire et son niveau de compétition qui s'annonce tres élevé pour 2006.

Marco Santos - Représentant Des Pilotes
L'année passé, Marco était le Directeur des Courses chez Drift Mania. Cette Année il a décidé de se jeter dans la compétition pour défendre son titre du meilleur pilote de drift au Québec. En plus, il est "la voix des pilotes", pour assurer que tout fonctionne bien entre les pilotes et Drift Mania. C'est Marco qu'a commencé la drift au Québec, et il continue de promouvoir le sport en donnant son temps et énergie à tous qui en ont besoin.

An impressive start to Canada s premier drifting series

Montreal, QC June 4th, 2006 The 2006 edition of the Castrol Drift Mania Canadian Championship (DMCC) brought to Canadian soil a new twist on motor sports that has been growing in popularity at a ferocious rate in the past three years. As the only sanctioned drifting series in Canada with stops in Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto and Vancouver, the Castrol DMCC started off the season with an impressive launch. Over 4000 fans turned out for the inaugural event and witnessed 18 of the top drifters battle it out head to head at the Autodrome St-Eustache in Montreal, Quebec. We are extremely pleased with the outcome of our first event. The cars look better, the drivers are drifting harder and the support from our sponsors has been tremendous, said Alex Crepault, general manager, Castrol DMCC.

Vancouver native Hideki Nishimura, captain of the Toyo Tires drift team, made his east coast debut competing in his very powerful 400hp JDM Mazda RX-7. 2005 DMCC champion Ryan Tuerck returned to defend his title in his newly built Silvia S13 running a KA24 turbocharged power plant and represented Team Cooper Tires. Montreal drift icon Marco Santos of Team Continental unveiled his newly built Infiniti G35 that would unfortunately suffer from mechanical problems, forcing Santos to qualify in his original Nissan 240SX that he ran last season.

Yokohama Tires presented spectators with a unique contest dubbed, The Yokohama Drift Experience where lucky fans were eligible to win a live ride-along with Team Yokohama s top drivers Ben Alden and Haig Kanadjian. Hankook Tires presented an entertainment stage which not only hosted a live DJ and a few dance acts but also the trophy ceremony for winners of the show and shine competition as well as the podium.

After an exhilarating day of hardcore drifting, only four drivers would make it into the Toyo Tires Final Four competition. In the first duel, 2005 champ Tuerck fought off Team Yokohama s Corolla AE86 driven by New York State native, Ben Alden to gain his spot in the finals. Nishimura and his RX7 faced off against Santos 240SX for the other final spot. What many may regard as the battle of the day ended up with a total of three one more times as judges simply were unable to decide on a clear winner. In a difficult decision, Santos would go on to the finals and Nishimura would fault his 3rd place battle with Alden due to mechanical difficulties. With Tuerck and Santos facing off for 1st place, the crowd cheered as both Silvia S13s attacked every corner with blistering entrance speed and angles that were near perpendicular. Unfortunately, by the end of the first lap Santos would blow his 3rd gear rendering his vehicle inadequate to win the race. But in true sportsman-like conduct, Santos would nonetheless complete the second lap of the final battle by drifting only in 2nd gear. Not to be discredited, Tuerck took home a well earned first place podium spot by delivering a bulletproof, consistent performance throughout the entire competition.

The top eight finalists of round one are automatically pre-qualified for the second event scheduled for July 2nd in Quebec City. Judging by the heat of the competition thus far, we can expect much more smoke from the tarmac as rivalries continue to build and egos get broken down.
