Auto Show's History

The first Montreal International Auto Show was held in 1969 at the Palais du Commerce. Its success was so great that one year later, the Show was moved to Place Bonaventure, a larger and more prestigious exposition site.

Already, the relationship between Quebeckers and the automobile was unique and intense in itself, promising a fantastic future for the Show. A constant increase in the number of visitors testified to its success, and organizers were prompted to surpass themselves and create more and more special attractions and unveilings.

From 1970 to 1989, the Show's rapid growth rested on two vital elements: the manufacturers' wish to present a greater selection of vehicles and the new manufacturers' requests for their own place among us. Another move was in order...

In 1990, the MIAS entered into the third stage of its history by moving into Montréal's Olympic Stadium. The prestigious location had all the characteristics required for the Show to develop its potential: a much larger exposition site and a luxurious interior that compares to the greatest hotels.

At the turn of the millennium, the MIAS settled in a more central location at the Palais des congrès de Montréal to capitalize on down-town location near the Old Port and right in the heart of the business area.

Test Drives are back!

Following their remarkable success in 2009, the Test Drives are back again for a second straight year! Visitors will have the opportunity to take one of twelve (12) alternative energy vehicles for a quick spin around the Palais des Congrès, thus allowing them to evaluate first-hand the performance of these eco-friendly automobiles. Please note that some restrictions may apply and that places will be limited… so first come, first served!

Here is a rundown of all available vehicles for the 2010 Test Drives:

- Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid;

- GMC Yukon SLT Hybrid;

- Honda Insight;

- Subaru Legacy PZEV and Outback PZEV;

- Toyota Camry Hybrid and Prius;

- Volkswagen Golf Wagon TDI Clean Diesel, Golf TDI Clean Diesel, Jetta TDI Clean Diesel and Touareg TDI Clean Diesel.

Visitors interested in taking a test drive must present themselves at the register place located on level 2 of the Show, be at least 25 years of age, present a valid driver’s licence and have all the required vehicle insurance. Once registered, you will be issued a number and you will be informed of the approximate waiting time. All test drives will last about five (5) minutes each. As places remain limited, people will be informed when the maximum number of participants has been reached. Be advised there is no waiting list; therefore, visitors who were not able to participate in a test drive will not be able to use their number the following day.

$361,119.24 raised by

the 2010 Montreal International Auto Show Charity Preview

The Montreal International Auto Show (MIAS) Charity Preview evening, which took place January 14, 2010, helped raise $361,119.24 to benefit five (5) worthy causes within the Greater Montreal’s medical community: Fondation du CHUM, Montréal Sacré-Coeur Hospital Foundation, MUHC - McGill University Health Centre Foundation, Pierre-Boucher Hospital Foundation and Santa Cabrini Foundation. This fund raising event was presented by the Montreal Automobile Dealers Corporation Foundation and the Palais des congrès de Montréal.

More than $1.8 million donated since 2005 Ever since it premiered back in 2005, the event has raised over $1.8 million for various foundations of the Greater Montreal’s health care community. Now, for a 6th consecutive year, the auto industry is proud to offer their support to five (5) foundations, all working towards a common goal: preserving your health.

An enchanting evening!

In keeping with its previous editions, the 2010 Charity Preview, whose spokesperson this year was actor Raymond Bouchard for a 3rd consecutive year, was once again a tremendous success! Attendees to the evening were able to feast their eyes on some of the crown jewels of the automotive industry before the Auto Show opened to the public, and got to mingle with some of the auto industry’s biggest names along with well-known personalities from Quebec’s artistic community. The event was enjoyed by all, taking place in a relaxed atmosphere and featuring impressive door prizes, entertaining jazz music, as well as a deliciously refined buffet dinner, complete with a selection of fine wines.

Mrs. Carole Leblanc, 2010 Montreal International Auto Show President, is thrilled to continue this wonderful tradition. “For a 6th consecutive year, we are very proud to be able to support five (5) foundations whose hard work and dedication remain essential to the health and well-being of everyone within the Greater Montreal community,” expressed Mrs. Leblanc during the evening.
